Senior Rust Engineer

Engineering Remote Part-time

About Identra

Identra is developer authentication infrastructure — the drop-in UI, hooks, and hosted flows developers expect, sold on flat, predictable pricing instead of a per-user meter. We're building the authentication layer we always wished existed: complete, correct, and priced so your bill never punishes you for growing.

Security posture is the product. Our backend is Rust, our data model is designed so tenant isolation is a property of the database, and every state change is auditable by construction.

The role

We're looking for a Senior Rust Engineer to own core parts of the platform end to end — from the request pipeline to the data model to the workers that fan out behind it. You'll work close to the metal of an auth system: sessions and tokens, sign-in flows, enterprise SSO, and the event backbone that makes it all observable and extensible.

This is a high-trust, high-ownership role on a small team. You'll ship features that thousands of developers build on, and you'll set the bar for how we write and review Rust.

What you'll work on

  • The core API — Axum + Tokio services with a thin transport layer and a fat domain layer; compile-time-checked SQL against PostgreSQL via SQLx.
  • The event/outbox backbone — every state change emits an event in the same transaction; async workers turn those into audit logs, webhooks, email, and metering.
  • Auth primitives done right — JWT (EdDSA) with key rotation, refresh-token rotation and reuse detection, WebAuthn/passkeys, TOTP, OAuth, and argon2id password hashing.
  • Tenancy and safety — application-scoped isolation enforced at the row level (RLS), a default-deny authorization model, and a soft-delete + erasure path baked into the schema.
  • Performance and correctness — the checks on our hot paths must be fast and right; you'll profile, harden, and keep the failure modes closed.

What we're looking for

  • Several years building production systems in Rust (or deep systems experience and a track record of picking Rust up fast).
  • Strong grasp of async Rust (Tokio), API design, and relational data modeling with PostgreSQL.
  • You care about correctness and security — you think in invariants, edge cases, and failure modes, not just the happy path.
  • You write code that reads like the surrounding code: clear, tested, and reviewable.
  • Comfortable owning a problem from schema to endpoint to rollout.

Nice to have

  • Experience with authentication/identity, cryptography, or security-sensitive systems.
  • Familiarity with SQLx, Axum, the tower ecosystem, or event-driven/outbox architectures.
  • Multi-tenant SaaS, RLS, or compliance-adjacent (SOC 2 / GDPR) work.
  • Open-source contributions we can look at.

How we work

  • Remote-first, async by default, with a strong bias for writing things down.
  • Small team, short path from idea to production — you'll see your work in users' hands quickly.
  • We reach for well-maintained crates before reinventing primitives, and we keep clean module boundaries so the code stays a joy to work in.

Apply

Send a short note and anything that shows how you think — a project, a PR, a write-up — to jobs@identrahq.com. No cover-letter theater required; we care about how you build.

Identra is an equal-opportunity employer. We welcome applicants from every background.
